Skalmantas Barkauskas is a young sculptor, an inquisitive maker of traditional musical instruments, a member of Craftsmen’s Guild Krikragaa, who is close to making his 100th kanklės.
He makes various musical instruments: kanklės, stump drums, tambourines, shepherd’s horns, skudučiai.
During his free time, he also experiments creating art and exploring sound. This way, Stone Kanklės and Bagpipe-Self-portrait were born. With great respect, he learns from musical instrument maker Albertas Martinaitis from Šiauliai.
Skalmantas calls himself a Jack of all trades with a special love for kanklės.
